“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.” - T. Roosevelt
If effort, pain and difficulty is 12,000 lbs of trash, a common night hawk (which isn't a hawk and isn't common) incident, a water leak, brick work, concrete work, finishing a 140 year old floor, a difficult ceiling, one trip to the ER, countless snags and modifications to the plan.... then I guess this could be classified as a worthwhile project.
Nah... I know it was worthwhile! I came to this realization on January 1st with my munchkins, family, friends, community members and my fellow paddlers. Although, we had to go to Plan B (as far as the river is concerned), it was a special day for my family. The culmination of a lot of effort that was rewarded through the enthusiasm and laughs of the people we were able to meet and hang out with.
What is just as special is the relationships made along the journey. In just over a year, I have met countless individuals who sacrificed their time and energy to support this dream. The list is too long to thank everyone individually but you all certainly know who you are, and I will never forget your support.
We truly believe 2017 will be a special year for ONE and the City of Franklin!
Thank you to D. Pierce, 190 Leatherworks and Paddler Shawn for the pictures!
